Today we remember the birth of the first human to leave Earth.

Today we remember the birth of the first human to leave Earth.
On March 9, 1934, a boy was born in a small village in Russia.
No one could have imagined that one day he would change the history of humanity forever.
His name was Yuri Gagarin.

On April 12, 1961, aboard the spacecraft Vostok-1, Gagarin became the first human to travel into space. For 108 minutes he orbited our planet and saw something no human had ever seen before — Earth from space.
Before launch, he said the words that would become legendary:
“Let’s go!”
Some fascinating facts about Yuri Gagarin:
His historic mission lasted just 108 minutes, but it opened the door to the entire era of human space exploration.
Gagarin reached an altitude of about 327 km (203 miles) above Earth.
During re-entry he ejected from the capsule and parachuted to the ground — something that was kept secret at the time.
At only 27 years old, he instantly became the most famous person on Earth.
But perhaps the most powerful moment of his journey was what he said while looking down at our planet:
“I see Earth… it is so beautiful.”

A single orbit around our world changed how humanity saw itself forever.
From that moment on, space was no longer just a dream — it was our future.
And it all started with one brave human who dared to go first.
