“Sisters Give Birth to Identical Twin Girls Just Three Months Apart
A family in Pennsylvania was left stunned after two sisters both welcomed identical twin girls within just a few months of each other.
Megan O’Brien, 29, and her sister Sara Seyler, 32, from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, were already surprised to find themselves pregnant at the same time. But the shock grew even bigger when both women learned they were expecting identical twins.

Megan was the first to give birth, welcoming her daughters Lilah and Josie. Just three months later, the family experienced another astonishing moment when Sara gave birth to her own identical twin girls, Lennon and Parker. Even their mother admits she sometimes struggles to tell the babies apart.
The pregnancies came as a complete surprise to the sisters because twins do not run in their family. Although Megan’s husband, Matt, is a triplet, there had been no sign that Megan herself might have twins—let alone that her sister would as well.
Recalling the moment she discovered Sara was also expecting twins, Megan said the news left her speechless.
“My jaw just dropped,” Megan said. “I had tears in my eyes because there are no twins anywhere in our family. It was so cool that she was having twins too.”
At the time, Megan was away celebrating a friend’s bachelorette party when Sara called her.
“I knew she was having her first ultrasound that day,” Megan explained. “When she FaceTimed me, I thought she just wanted to tell me how the appointment went. But when I answered, she was crying, and I thought, ‘Oh my God, what’s wrong?’ Then she held up the ultrasound picture—and there were two babies.”
The sisters said it was purely a coincidence that they became pregnant around the same time.
Sara recalled feeling nervous when she first told Megan she was pregnant.
“When I found out I was pregnant, I called her and started apologizing,” Sara said. “I was like, ‘I’m so sorry,’ because this was going to be her first pregnancy. I thought she might think I was stealing her thunder.”
Instead, the sisters ended up sharing the entire pregnancy journey together.
Megan said it was comforting to have someone so close going through a similar experience.
“Sara had already been pregnant once before with her son,” Megan said. “But when I was pregnant with twins, I was always about three months ahead of her. She would ask me things like, ‘Is this normal?’ and we could compare everything.”
Having each other made the experience easier and more meaningful.

“You always had someone to answer questions and relate to,” Megan added. “It was nice because we bounced things off each other in different ways.”
The sisters say adjusting to life with four babies hasn’t been as overwhelming as people might expect, partly because they come from a large family where busy gatherings are normal.
“When the whole family is together, the chaos is pretty normal for us,” they said.
Megan’s daughters, Lilah and Josie, were born on November 21, 2021, at Doylestown Hospital in Pennsylvania. Lilah arrived at 1:33 a.m., weighing 4 pounds 14 ounces, and Josie followed one minute later at 1:34 a.m., weighing 4 pounds 6 ounces.
Sara experienced a pregnancy that felt very similar to her sister’s.
“My first trimester was absolutely awful with the sickness,” Sara said. “But the second trimester was actually pretty good.”
As the pregnancy progressed, however, carrying twins became increasingly uncomfortable.
“By around 30 to 33 weeks it gets very painful,” she explained. “When you’re carrying twins, it feels like you’re already carrying a full-term baby at around 32 weeks because there’s more than one in there.”
Sara’s daughters, Parker and Lennon, were born on February 8, 2022, at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pennsylvania. Parker arrived first at 7:31 p.m., weighing 5 pounds 11 ounces, and Lennon followed a minute later, weighing 4 pounds 5 ounces.
Megan says having her sister go through the same experience has been a huge source of support.
“It’s not always rainbows and butterflies. There are hard days,” she said. “But we have each other, and we’re going through the same thing. That has been super helpful.”
The sisters also enjoy sharing the joyful moments together.
“We get to share funny stories,” Megan said. “And sometimes we even buy the girls the same outfits.”
Identical twins occur in roughly one out of every 250 pregnancies. However, if a woman has a female sibling who has had identical twins, her chances of having identical twins herself are roughly doubled.”
