The Longest Kiss That Time Couldn’t Break

The Longest Kiss That Time Couldn’t Break
In 2013, a Thai couple, Ekkachai and Laksana Tiranarat, etched their names into history with a feat that blurred the line between endurance and devotion. At a Ripley’s Believe It or Not! event in Pattaya, they remained locked in a single kiss for 58 hours, 35 minutes, and 58 seconds, beginning on February 12 and ending on Valentine’s Day. Out of nine competing couples, only they withstood what became an extraordinary test of both physical strength and emotional resilience.

The challenge was far from romantic comfort. Contestants were required to stay in continuous contact, even during bathroom breaks, and had to pass water mouth-to-mouth to stay hydrated. Sleep was forbidden. To endure the exhaustion, Ekkachai and Laksana developed small survival strategies, including gently tapping each other to stay awake while holding on tightly.
Their victory earned them a cash prize and diamond rings, but what made their achievement even more remarkable was that they had already broken the same record in 2011. The 2013 event marked not just a win, but a reclaiming of their own legacy. Soon after, Guinness World Records discontinued the longest kiss category entirely, citing safety concerns. This left the couple as the final, unchallenged record holders of a title that would never be contested again.

Years later, Ekkachai revealed in a BBC podcast that the couple had parted ways after 13 years together. Despite their separation, he expressed pride in what they achieved and respect for the bond they once shared. Their relationship may not have lasted forever, but their record remains untouched, a lasting symbol of a moment when endurance, love, and human will converged in a way the world had never seen before.
