James Webb Has Detected Something Inside 3I/ATLAS That Should Not Exist

The James Webb Space Telescope has reportedly detected something in the interstellar object known as 3I/ATLAS that scientists say should not exist, sending shockwaves through the scientific community. First discovered in July 2025, 3I/ATLAS was initially classified as a comet-like visitor similar to ʻOumuamua or Borisov, but Webb’s infrared observations revealed a startling anomaly: the simultaneous presence of large amounts of molecular oxygen and methane on its surface.

Under normal cosmic conditions, these two highly reactive molecules should not coexist for long, as they would quickly destroy each other through chemical reactions. Even more puzzling, 3I/ATLAS shows no typical signs of cometary outgassing, suggesting it may not be a comet at all.

Some scientists believe an unknown internal mechanism could be stabilizing these compounds, while others, including Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb, have proposed a far more controversial idea—that the object may be engineered rather than natural. If this hypothesis were ever proven, it would radically reshape our understanding of chemistry, physics, and humanity’s place in the universe, raising the unsettling possibility that we are not merely observing the cosmos, but being observed in return.
