A Brother Left College, A Girlfriend Drives Hours — The Unbreakable Circle Surrounding Cleighton Strickland’s Fight to Walk Again.

Cleighton Strickland’s Journey of Recovery

More than three months have passed since the night that changed everything for Cleighton Strickland. That November car accident left him with a severe traumatic brain injury, a wound that reshapes life rather than simply bruising the body. Since then, Cleighton has been fighting forward at Shepherd Center in Atlanta, supported by therapists, medical equipment, and the unwavering presence of his family.

Recovery has been slow and grueling. Tasks once automatic—walking, speaking, swallowing—now require intense focus and repetition. At one point, both legs and his right arm were placed in casts to manage muscle tightness, bringing additional discomfort, especially at night. The casts were later replaced with braces, and his arm still requires daytime support. Alongside this, he endured kidney stones, adding another challenge to an already demanding recovery.

Despite setbacks and the fragile nature of progress, endurance has become central to his days. Cleighton uses specialized equipment and robotic therapy to regain movement, walks with assistance, and is beginning to navigate stairs. His communication is returning, allowing him to interact with staff and, most importantly, his brother Gregory, who paused his university studies to be by Cleighton’s side. Each small victory is a testament to resilience, patience, and the quiet determination shaping his recovery.
