When 62 Schoolchildren in Zimbabwe Claimed to Witness a Landing Craft
On a quiet morning at Ariel School in the rural town of Ruwa, one of the most unusual UFO encounters ever reported by children took place. During recess, dozens of students claimed they saw a strange flying craft land just beyond the school playground — along with mysterious beings that stepped out of it.
The event would soon attract international media attention and become one of the most famous UFO cases in modern history.
A Normal School Morning
At around 10:00 a.m., students aged 6 to 12 years old were outside playing during mid-morning break. Most teachers were inside attending a staff meeting, leaving the playground largely unsupervised.
Suddenly, several children noticed bright, silver objects moving erratically in the sky. Witnesses later said the objects appeared to flash or dart across the sky before descending toward a field roughly 100 meters from the playground.
Moments later, one of the objects reportedly landed in the brush near the school grounds.
The Alleged Encounter
According to 62 children who later gave statements, the craft looked like a shiny silver disc or dome-shaped object hovering above the ground.
Some of the children ran away in fear. Others moved closer to the fence separating the playground from the field.
Those who remained nearby said something even stranger happened.
Several students reported seeing small humanoid figures dressed in black standing near the craft. The beings were described as having large dark eyes and thin bodies.
A few children claimed the beings appeared to communicate telepathically, sending them messages about environmental destruction and the future of Earth.
The entire event reportedly lasted about 10–15 minutes before the craft suddenly lifted off and disappeared.
Drawings and Interviews
When the children returned to class, they excitedly told their teachers what had happened. At first, many adults dismissed the story as imagination or misinterpretation.
However, as more students repeated remarkably similar accounts, the school decided to document what they saw.
Students were asked to draw pictures of the craft and the beings, creating dozens of sketches that showed similar shapes and figures.
Soon after, journalist Cynthia Hind, one of Africa’s best-known UFO researchers, arrived at the school to interview the witnesses.
A few months later, John E. Mack, a Harvard psychiatrist known for studying alien encounter reports, also interviewed many of the children.
He concluded that the students appeared sincere and consistent in their descriptions.
