“Joy and Loss Intertwined as Brazilian Mum Gives Birth to Sextuplets in Minutes
For Quezia Romualdo, the birth of her sextuplets became one of the most powerful moments of her life — filled with awe, gratitude, and profound sorrow. What began as an extraordinary miracle would later be marked by heartbreaking loss.
Quezia and her husband, Magdiel Costa, had hoped to give their five-year-old daughter a brother or sister. They never imagined that their wish would result in six babies at once — an occurrence so rare it is reported only a handful of times worldwide.

In October, when Quezia was just 27 weeks pregnant, she was admitted to São Bernardo Apart Hospital in Colatina. Knowing the complexity of the situation, the hospital assembled a team of 32 medical professionals, including obstetricians, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, and neonatal specialists, all prepared for a highly delicate delivery.
The cesarean section was astonishingly swift. In just 10 minutes, Quezia delivered six premature babies — Theo, Matteo, Lucca, Henry, Maytê, and Eloá. Each weighed between 635 grams and slightly over one kilogram. Despite their early arrival, the procedure itself went smoothly, and the newborns were immediately transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit for round-the-clock care.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Magdiel shared the news publicly, describing the births as a miracle and thanking the medical staff for their dedication. “God gave us an extraordinary gift,” he wrote. “We are grateful for every life and for the team that made this possible.”
In the weeks that followed, however, the family faced devastating news. Two of the babies, Theo and Matteo, passed away due to complications related to extreme prematurity. The loss deeply affected the family, turning their joy into mourning.

The remaining four babies — Lucca, Henry, Maytê, and Eloá — continue to receive intensive care in the NICU and are steadily gaining strength under close medical supervision.
Despite their grief, Quezia and Magdiel remain hopeful. Surrounded by prayers, messages of support, and encouragement from across Brazil, they are holding on to faith and focusing on the lives still fighting beside them.
Their journey has resonated with thousands, serving as a powerful reminder of both how fragile life can be and how resilient love becomes when parents are determined to cherish every precious moment with their miracle children.”
