Obstetrician Delivers His Own Baby Daughter Inside Elevator After Rapid Labor
A Brazilian couple barely made it out of their apartment before their baby decided it was time to arrive — and the delivery ended up taking place inside a building elevator, with the father stepping in as doctor and dad.
Déborah Bittar went into labor as she and her husband, Dr. Danilo Almeida, prepared to head to the hospital in Anápolis, Brazil. The couple were rushing downstairs when it became clear their second daughter wasn’t willing to wait any longer.

Fortunately, Déborah’s husband is an experienced obstetrician. When the labor progressed at remarkable speed, Dr. Almeida delivered baby Júlia right there in the elevator.
Although he has helped bring more than 5,000 babies into the world during his career, even Dr. Almeida was stunned by how quickly events unfolded. He later shared security camera footage from the apartment building on Instagram, capturing the dramatic moment.
In the video, Déborah — a nutritionist — is seen standing near the elevator doors as a contraction hits. She instinctively holds her belly, lowers into a squat, and reaches out to stop the doors from closing as labor intensifies.
Recalling the moment, Dr. Almeida said he arrived home to find Déborah already eight centimeters dilated. The plan was to reach the hospital, but their daughter had other ideas.
As seen in the footage, Dr. Almeida drops the hospital bags to the floor, safely delivers Júlia, and hands the newborn to her mother before cutting the umbilical cord.
Soon after the unexpected delivery, Déborah is shown calmly walking through the hallway, cradling her newborn daughter wrapped in a blanket.

Dr. Almeida later admitted that the speed and location of the birth took him by surprise. While he is familiar with extremely fast labors — sometimes called “precipitous” or “jet” births, which last under two hours — he said this one was truly unforgettable.
Despite the unusual setting, mother and baby were reported to be doing well, turning a frantic moment into an extraordinary family story they’ll never forget
