From Triplets to Quadruplets: One Family’s Unexpected Journey to a House Full of Babies
For the Imbrea family from Hinte, life took an astonishing turn when a pregnancy they believed involved triplets ended with the arrival of four babies instead.
On February 11, 22-year-old Vasilica Imbrea delivered quadruplets by cesarean section at 30 weeks. Until that very moment, doctors had told the couple they were expecting three babies. It was only during the operation that medical staff discovered there was a fourth child — a surprise that left everyone in the room stunned.
“In the beginning, we thought the doctor must be joking,” Vasilica said. “It didn’t feel real until they showed us another baby. That’s when it truly sank in — there were four. It was such an unexpected blessing.”

Originally from Romania, Vasilica moved to Germany nearly four years ago. She and her husband already had a young son and had simply hoped to give him a sibling. Instead, their family grew from three to seven almost overnight.
When she first learned she was carrying triplets, Vasilica admitted she felt overwhelmed and frightened about how they would manage. Over time, that fear turned into anticipation — and then amazement when the fourth baby was born.
Now, she spends her days caring for her daughter, Anais Rebeca, and her three sons, Patrick Mathias, David Christian and Eric Gabriel, who are three months old. Their older brother, two-year-old Dominic Stefan, has recently started attending daycare.
Although much of her extended family remains in Romania, Vasilica has support. A family midwife assists her regularly during the week, arranged through local services, and additional help from relatives is planned to ease the demands of daily life.
The family recently moved from Emden to Hinte, as their former apartment would have been far too cramped — even for three babies. Their new home, with seven bedrooms, offers the space they now need as a household of seven.

Caring for four infants at once is relentless. Feeding takes place in two-hour rotations, amounting to close to 50 bottles each day. Nappy changes can reach similar numbers, making supermarket trips a serious logistical exercise. For now, the babies are small enough to rest side by side, but Vasilica knows their needs — and energy levels — will only grow.
Even so, she speaks with deep gratitude.
“My children are a blessing,” she said. “I don’t know what I did to deserve so much happiness. They make me smile every day. They give me strength and purpose.”
What started as a simple hope for one more child has transformed into a bustling home filled with laughter, exhaustion and love — multiplied by four.
